One dark and stormy night, two kindred spirits, a dreamer and an innovator, dizzy from the meaningless jargon, never-ending PowerPoint presentations, and enough acronyms to demand entire encyclopedias, emerged from the fires of fortune 100 companies. These two change agents, armed with their curiosity, a bit of pleasant rebelliousness, and their toothbrushes, set out to change the world.
Their journey, fueled by a lifelong passion for Story, Design, Culture, and Experience, took them from humble beginnings of designing bite-sized content, to leading creative change and transformation within entire organizations. Until, one day, they found a problem that hooked them:
Culture change is often the victim of unintended evolution over time.
They believed they could intentionally and creatively design culture and its experience to be more aligned, both with the employee and the business, by using a human-centered, change-based, narrative strategy focused on purpose, values, behaviors, and the various experiences within a culture including rituals, symbols, artifacts, communication, story, content, and communication.
It was at this moment, they committed to a philosophy that believes that culture and change begins with the individual and swells outward. Culture isn’t a bulldozer plowing through your organization. It’s a seed planted deeply within us as individuals, rooted in our human sensibilities, swelling into passionate and purposeful action. It’s at this point when we stop convincing minds and start connecting hearts. It’s when we meaningfully and purposefully see ourselves within the larger story and culture. It’s when change swells from the individual, into teams, across departments, and through the entire organization until it sticks. We believe lasting change can’t be prescribed. It has to be believed.
It was through this journey that instead of changing the world, they discovered it. They encountered new people, places, and ideas and found themselves humbled and in awe of… Well, all of it. This sparked a life-long fascination and, ultimately, a mission to understand how ideas, culture, and change swell into a movement -- through moments of inspiration, disruption, and innovation.
As a result, The Swell Podcast was born.
